As we decided to open up our farm to special events and weddings, we started dreaming about hosting our own farm dinner with as much local fare as possible.. and on Summer Solstice 2018 that dream became reality!
We had a great turnout with over 90 guests!
A little background on the main course
Last year we grew 4 Red Wattle pigs land harvested them in January of 2018 with the help of Jeremiah DeBrie of Intentional Swine. These heritage breed hogs are known for their hardiness, growth rate and foraging activity. We gave them loads of delicious veggie scraps and fruits and loved seeing them lounge in the sun and root around for black walnuts. They had a good life and a quick death, right in the barn they had known most of their lives. The slaughtering days were very hard. We want y’all to know it was done with gratitude and respect for their lives. Sharing their bounty with the folks who came out to support us was a blessing and the pigs are still feeding us almost 2 years later.
Burial Beer made special beers for us using flowers from the farm! They were all so perfect, but the Lavender Pale Ale was a tremendous hit. Lucky Penny Creative helped us with all the organizational details and was a joy to work with! Beautiful sounds to match the scenery were provided by sweeties Jack Victor + Zack Kardon of Midnight Snack and East West Vintage Rentals provided lovely table wares.
Intentional Swine was able to source 99% of the meal locally! We were totally honored to work with JT and Samara and are grateful for the relationships we’ve forged with their family.
